  1.2             relating to the Minnesota Historical Society; 
  1.3             appropriating money for a bust of former United States 
  1.4             Supreme Court Justice Harry A. Blackmun. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [APPROPRIATION.] 
  1.7      $....... is appropriated in fiscal year 2001 from the 
  1.8   general fund to the Minnesota Historical Society to commission a 
  1.9   bust of former United States Supreme Court Justice Harry A. 
  1.10  Blackmun and install it on the second floor of the state capitol 
  1.11  opposite the bust of former Chief Justice of the United States 
  1.12  Warren Burger.  Justice Blackmun should be so recognized 
  1.13  opposite Chief Justice Burger because they were boyhood friends 
  1.14  and schoolmates in St. Paul and served together for many years 
  1.15  on the United States Supreme Court.  In addition to his service 
  1.16  on the United States Supreme Court from 1970 to 1994, Blackmun 
  1.17  served on the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth 
  1.18  Circuit from 1959 to 1970, and as resident counsel to the Mayo 
  1.19  Clinic and Mayo Association in Rochester, Minnesota, from 1950 
  1.20  to 1959.
