relating to health; authorizing minors age 16 or older to consent to nonresidential
mental health services; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter
144.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

new text begin A minor who is age 16 or older may give effective consent for nonresidential mental
health services, and the consent of no other person is required. For purposes of this section,
"nonresidential mental health services" means mental health services as defined in section
245.4871, subdivision 28, provided to a minor who is not residing in a hospital, inpatient
unit, or licensed residential treatment facility or program.
