  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to taxation; eliminating county authority to 
  1.3             grant economic development tax abatements; amending 
  1.4             Minnesota Statutes 1997 Supplement, section 469.1812, 
  1.5             subdivision 4. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1997 Supplement, section 
  1.8   469.1812, subdivision 4, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 4.  [POLITICAL SUBDIVISION OR SUBDIVISION.] 
  1.10  "Political subdivision" or "subdivision" means a statutory or 
  1.11  home rule charter city, town, or school district, or county. 
  1.12     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.13     Section 1 is effective the day following final enactment 
  1.14  and applies to abatements granted on or after that date.
