  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to education; providing certain school 
  1.3             districts flexible options for desegregation rules; 
  1.4             proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, 
  1.5             chapter 124D. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [124D.8965] [RULES NOT MANDATORY.] 
  1.8      Minnesota Rules, parts 3535.0100 to 3535.0180 do not apply 
  1.9   to a school district located entirely outside of the 
  1.10  metropolitan area, as defined in section 473.121, subdivision 2, 
  1.11  having fewer than 1,000 pupil units on the effective date of 
  1.12  this act.  The school board of a district to which this section 
  1.13  applies may elect to comply with the rules.  If the district 
  1.14  complies with the rules, the district is eligible to receive any 
  1.15  state aid appropriated to assist districts in complying with 
  1.16  these rules. 
  1.17     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.18     Section 1 is effective the day following final enactment.
