  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to education; requiring instruction in the 
  1.3             United States Constitution; proposing coding for new 
  1.4             law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 126. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [126.061] [INSTRUCTION IN THE UNITED STATES 
  1.7   CONSTITUTION.] 
  1.8      School districts shall develop and implement curricula so 
  1.9   that all public elementary and secondary school students 
  1.10  annually receive instruction in the United States Constitution, 
  1.11  including its history, content, importance, and interpretation.  
  1.12  The amount of instruction shall equal at least the equivalent of 
  1.13  one school day. 
  1.14     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.15     Section 1 is effective for the 1998-1999 school year and 
  1.16  thereafter.
