A bill for an act
relating to military veterans; providing tuition relief for disabled veterans to
attend MnSCU institutions; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes,
chapter 136F.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

new text begin A resident student who is a veteran, as defined in section 197.447, and who has a
100 percent service-connected permanent and total disability rating as adjudicated by the
United States Veterans Administration, or by the retirement board of one of the several
branches of the armed forces, is not required to pay the portion of tuition and mandatory
fees at a state college or university in excess of the amount of tuition covered by the
student's federal Pell grant and state grant awards to attend that college or university. A
student must apply for a federal Pell grant and a state grant to be eligible for the tuition
relief under this section. This section applies only while the student is making satisfactory
academic progress as determined by the college or university.

Trustees of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities for the purpose of the tuition
relief provided in Minnesota Statutes, section 136F.191.
