  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to emergency preparedness; appropriating 
  1.3             money to Lake, Cook, and St. Louis counties for 
  1.4             emergency communications equipment and training to 
  1.5             respond to a major wildfire.  
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [APPROPRIATION.] 
  1.8      $1,164,000 is appropriated from the general fund in fiscal 
  1.9   year 2000 to the commissioner of natural resources for grants to 
  1.10  Lake, Cook, and St. Louis counties for emergency communications 
  1.11  equipment, emergency response equipment, and emergency planning 
  1.12  and training to respond to a major wildfire.  Of this amount, 
  1.13  $134,000 is for a grant to Lake county, $350,000 is for a grant 
  1.14  to Cook county, and $680,000 is for a grant to St. Louis 
  1.15  county.  St. Louis county must use a portion of the grant to 
  1.16  purchase a NOAA warning system that can be used by all of the 
  1.17  counties receiving grants under this section.  This 
  1.18  appropriation is available until June 30, 2001. 
  1.19     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.20     Section 1 is effective the day following final enactment.
