  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to education; authorizing independent school 
  1.3             district No. 696, Ely, to waive the open enrollment 
  1.4             deadline date. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [OPEN ENROLLMENT; ELY.] 
  1.7      Notwithstanding the deadlines for application and notice 
  1.8   for open enrollment under Minnesota Statutes, section 124D.03, 
  1.9   subdivisions 3 and 5, pupils may apply for open enrollment to 
  1.10  the boundary waters wilderness program in independent school 
  1.11  district No. 696, Ely, any time prior to the 2002-2003 and 
  1.12  2003-2004 school years as established by the school district.  
  1.13  An applicant, the applicant's parent or guardian, the district 
  1.14  of residence, and the district of attendance must observe, in a 
  1.15  prompt and efficient manner, the application and notice 
  1.16  procedures in Minnesota Statutes, section 124D.03, subdivisions 
  1.17  3 and 5, except that the application and notice deadlines do not 
  1.18  apply. 
  1.19     [EFFECTIVE DATE.] This section is effective the day 
  1.20  following final enactment.
