  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to government operations; requiring the 
  1.3             office of technology to study possible uses and 
  1.4             benefits of biometrics. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [BIOMETRICS UTILIZATION STUDY.] 
  1.7      The office of technology shall study the benefits to the 
  1.8   state of using biometrics in the areas of tobacco, liquor, and 
  1.9   lottery sales enforcement; health care; voter registration; 
  1.10  school access; and other situations where accurate personal 
  1.11  identification is essential.  The office shall report the 
  1.12  results of the study and recommendations to the senate 
  1.13  governmental operations and veterans and house governmental 
  1.14  operations committees by January 15, 1999.
