  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to peace officers; authorizing the Hubbard 
  1.3             county sheriff to have additional part-time peace 
  1.4             officer positions; amending Minnesota Statutes 1996, 
  1.5             section 626.8463, subdivision 2. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 626.8463, 
  1.8   subdivision 2, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 2.  [QUOTA.] (a) Except as otherwise provided in 
  1.10  paragraph (b), a law enforcement agency may have no more than 
  1.11  two part-time peace officer positions, except that the agency 
  1.12  may have up to the number of part-time peace officer positions 
  1.13  recognized by the board as of January 1, 1985. 
  1.14     (b) The Hubbard county sheriff is authorized to have up to 
  1.15  six part-time peace officer positions.
