  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to economic security; appropriating money for 
  1.3             a pilot project; requiring a report to the legislature.
  1.4   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.5      Section 1.  [APPROPRIATION.] 
  1.6      $250,000 is appropriated from the general fund to the 
  1.7   commissioner of economic security to administer section 2.  This 
  1.8   is a one-time appropriation that is available for the fiscal 
  1.9   year ending June 30, 1999.  
  1.10     Sec. 2.  [PILOT PROJECT.] 
  1.11     The commissioner of economic security shall develop a pilot 
  1.12  project that will electronically link four department workforce 
  1.13  centers with four secondary schools for the purpose of providing 
  1.14  secondary students and school counselors with labor market 
  1.15  information and job-seeking skills expertise to assist 
  1.16  transition from school to work.  The commissioner shall employ 
  1.17  four people to implement this project. 
  1.18     Sec. 3.  [REPORT.] 
  1.19     The commissioner shall report on the progress of the pilot 
  1.20  project described in section 2 to the legislature by May 1, 
  1.21  1999.  The commissioner shall make a final report on the pilot 
  1.22  projects to the legislature by March 1, 2000. 
  1.23     Sec. 4.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.24     Sections 1 to 3 are effective July 1, 1998.
