  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to transportation; appropriating money to the 
  1.3             metropolitan council for transit vehicle replacement 
  1.4             in the metropolitan area, and to the commissioner of 
  1.5             transportation for transit vehicle replacement in 
  1.6             Greater Minnesota. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  [APPROPRIATIONS.] 
  1.9      Subdivision 1.  [METROPOLITAN TRANSIT.] $16,000,000 is 
  1.10  appropriated from the general fund to the metropolitan council 
  1.11  for fiscal year 1999 for transit vehicle replacement. 
  1.12     Subd. 2.  [GREATER MINNESOTA TRANSIT.] $3,000,000 is 
  1.13  appropriated from the general fund to the commissioner of 
  1.14  transportation for fiscal year 1999 for transit vehicle 
  1.15  replacement for public transit systems receiving operating 
  1.16  assistance from the commissioner under Minnesota Statutes, 
  1.17  section 174.24.  Of this appropriation: 
  1.18     (1) $2,000,000 is for public transit systems receiving 
  1.19  operating assistance from the commissioner before July 1, 1998; 
  1.20  and 
  1.21     (2) $1,000,000 is for public transit systems not receiving 
  1.22  operating assistance from the commissioner before that date. 
  1.23     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.24     Section 1 is effective July 1, 1998.
