  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to natural resources; establishing the 
  1.3             Mississippi whitewater trail; proposing coding for new 
  1.4             law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 85.  
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [85.0156] [MISSISSIPPI WHITEWATER TRAIL.] 
  1.7      Subdivision 1.  [CREATION.] An urban whitewater trail is 
  1.8   created along the Mississippi river in the lower St. Anthony 
  1.9   falls area below the stone arch bridge in Minneapolis.  The 
  1.10  trail must be primarily developed for whitewater kayakers, 
  1.11  rafters, and canoers. 
  1.12     Subd. 2.  [COMMISSIONER'S DUTIES.] (a) The commissioner of 
  1.13  natural resources must coordinate the creation of the whitewater 
  1.14  trail by placing designation signs near and along the 
  1.15  Mississippi river and must publicize the designation. 
  1.16     (b) In designating the Mississippi whitewater trail, the 
  1.17  commissioner must work with other federal, state, and local 
  1.18  agencies, and private businesses and organizations interested in 
  1.19  the trail. 
  1.20     Subd. 3.  [GIFTS; DONATIONS.] The commissioner of natural 
  1.21  resources may accept, on behalf of a nonprofit corporation, 
  1.22  donations of land or easements in land for purposes of the 
  1.23  Mississippi whitewater trail and may seek and accept money for 
  1.24  the trail from public and private sources.
