  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to human services; establishing a donated 
  1.3             dental services program; appropriating money; 
  1.4             proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, 
  1.5             chapter 256B. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [256B.762] [DONATED DENTAL SERVICES.] 
  1.8      (a) The commissioner of human services shall contract with 
  1.9   the Minnesota dental association, or another appropriate and 
  1.10  qualified organization to develop and operate a donated dental 
  1.11  services program to provide dental care to public program 
  1.12  recipients and the uninsured through dentists who volunteer 
  1.13  their services without compensation.  The donated dental 
  1.14  services program shall: 
  1.15     (1) establish a network of volunteer dentists, including 
  1.16  dental specialties, to donate dental services to eligible 
  1.17  individuals; 
  1.18     (2) establish a system to refer eligible individuals to the 
  1.19  appropriate volunteer dentists; and 
  1.20     (3) develop and implement a public awareness campaign to 
  1.21  educate eligible individuals about the availability of the 
  1.22  program. 
  1.23     (b) Funding for the program may be used for administrative 
  1.24  or technical support.  The organization contracting with the 
  1.25  commissioner shall provide an annual report that accounts for 
  2.1   funding appropriated to the program by the state, and documents 
  2.2   the number of individuals served by the program and the number 
  2.3   of dentists participating as program providers.  
  2.4      Sec. 2.  [APPROPRIATION.] 
  2.5      $....... is appropriated from the general fund to the 
  2.6   commissioner of human services for fiscal year 2003 to implement 
  2.7   a donated dental services program.
