  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to capital improvements; providing for a 
  1.3             grant to the University of Minnesota to study, 
  1.4             develop, and construct a demonstration personal rapid 
  1.5             transit system; appropriating money. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [STUDY; APPROPRIATION.] 
  1.8      $400,000 is appropriated from the general fund to the board 
  1.9   of regents of the University of Minnesota for a planning study 
  1.10  on the application of a personal rapid transit system to meet 
  1.11  the transportation needs of the University of Minnesota Twin 
  1.12  Cities campuses and the state fairgrounds.  The study must also 
  1.13  evaluate how to enhance the commercial viability of the 
  1.14  university's patented personal rapid transit system, including 
  1.15  an estimate of the amount of money that would be available from 
  1.16  licensing agreements if a demonstration project of the personal 
  1.17  rapid transit system is successful.  The study must evaluate and 
  1.18  recommend a repayment agreement of state appropriations to 
  1.19  design, acquire, construct, furnish, and equip a personal rapid 
  1.20  transit system.  Under the agreement, repayment must be made 
  1.21  from future returns to the university from the patented system 
  1.22  to the state fund from which the money was appropriated.
