  1.1                             A resolution
  1.2             memorializing the President and Congress to increase 
  1.3             the federal minimum wage. 
  1.4      
  1.5      WHEREAS, the federal minimum wage has not been increased 
  1.6   since 1991 and thereby has not kept pace with the rate of 
  1.7   inflation; and 
  1.8      WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the United States of 
  1.9   America and the State of Minnesota to have a uniform minimum 
  1.10  wage in all 50 states; and 
  1.11     WHEREAS, the State of Minnesota does not want to place 
  1.12  itself at a competitive disadvantage with its neighboring states 
  1.13  by unilaterally raising its minimum wage; NOW, THEREFORE, 
  1.14     BE IT RESOLVED by the Legislature of the State of Minnesota 
  1.15  that it urges the United States Congress to enact legislation to 
  1.16  increase the federal minimum wage to a level that is 
  1.17  commensurate with the current cost of living. 
  1.18     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of State of the 
  1.19  State of Minnesota is directed to prepare certified copies of 
  1.20  this memorial and transmit them to the President of the United 
  1.21  States, the President and Secretary of the United States Senate, 
  1.22  the Speaker and Clerk of the United States House of 
  1.23  Representatives, the Secretary of the Department of Labor, and 
  1.24  Minnesota's Senators and Representatives in Congress.
