A bill for an act
relating to crime; modifying crime of aiding suicide and attempted suicide to
include harassment; amending Minnesota Statutes 2020, section 609.215,
subdivisions 1, 2.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2020, section 609.215, subdivision 1, is amended to read:


Subdivision 1.

Aiding suicide.

Whoever intentionallynew text begin harasses,new text end advises, encourages, or
assists another in taking the other's own life may be sentenced to imprisonment for not more
than 15 years or to payment of a fine of not more than $30,000, or both.

Sec. 2.

Minnesota Statutes 2020, section 609.215, subdivision 2, is amended to read:


Subd. 2.

Aiding attempted suicide.

or assists another who attempts but fails to take the other's own life may be sentenced to
imprisonment for not more than seven years or to payment of a fine of not more than $14,000,
or both.
