  1.1                             A resolution 
  1.2             memorializing the President and Congress of the United 
  1.3             States to enact the Aircraft Repair Station Safety Act 
  1.4             of 1997.  
  1.5      
  1.6      WHEREAS, on January 9, 1997, House Resolution No. 145 was 
  1.7   introduced in Congress; and 
  1.8      WHEREAS, on July 30, 1997, the companion Senate file, 
  1.9   S.1089, was introduced in Congress; and 
  1.10     WHEREAS, H.R.145 and S.1089 propose to enact the Aircraft 
  1.11  Repair Station Safety Act of 1997; and 
  1.12     WHEREAS, the Aircraft Repair Station Safety Act of 1997 
  1.13  would provide for more stringent standards for certification of 
  1.14  foreign repair stations by the Federal Aviation Administration 
  1.15  and would revoke the certification of any repair facility that 
  1.16  knowingly uses defective parts; and 
  1.17     WHEREAS, the Aircraft Repair Station Safety Act of 1997 
  1.18  would require all maintenance facilities, whether domestic or 
  1.19  foreign, to adhere to the same safety and operating procedures; 
  1.20  NOW, THEREFORE, 
  1.21     BE IT RESOLVED by the Legislature of the State of Minnesota 
  1.22  that it urges the President and Congress of the United States to 
  1.23  enact the Aircraft Repair Station Safety Act of 1997.  
  1.24     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of State of the 
  1.25  State of Minnesota is directed to prepare copies of this 
  2.1   memorial and transmit them to the President and Vice-President 
  2.2   of the United States, the President and the Secretary of the 
  2.3   United States Senate, the Speaker and the Clerk of the United 
  2.4   States House of Representatives, the chair of the Senate 
  2.5   Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, the chair of 
  2.6   the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, and 
  2.7   Minnesota's Senators and Representatives in Congress.
