  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to the city of Northfield; authorizing the 
  1.3             city to establish and operate related medical 
  1.4             facilities in conjunction with its municipal hospital 
  1.5             at a site outside the city limits; authorizing 
  1.6             Northfield to acquire real or personal property for 
  1.7             the related medical facilities. 
  1.8   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.9      Section 1.  [NORTHFIELD; MEDICAL FACILITIES.] 
  1.10     Notwithstanding Minnesota Statutes, sections 447.05 and 
  1.11  447.06, the city of Northfield may acquire, establish, and 
  1.12  operate hospitals and related medical facilities at a location 
  1.13  to be determined by the Northfield city council, including a 
  1.14  site outside the Northfield city limits.  The city may take 
  1.15  those actions by resolution or ordinance approved by a majority 
  1.16  of the city council. 
  1.17     Sec. 2.  [ACQUISITION OF SITES AND PROPERTY.] 
  1.18     The city of Northfield may acquire real or personal 
  1.19  property to establish, maintain, equip, improve, own, and 
  1.20  operate a hospital, hospital site, or hospital grounds, and 
  1.21  related medical facilities.  The city may hold, own, and operate 
  1.22  a hospital, hospital grounds and sites, and other real and 
  1.23  personal property previously transferred or conveyed to it for 
  1.24  hospital or related medical purposes. 
  1.25     Sec. 3.  [EFFECTIVE DATE; NO LOCAL APPROVAL REQUIRED.] 
  1.26     (a) Under Minnesota Statutes, section 645.023, subdivision 
  2.1   1, paragraph (a), no local approval of sections 1 and 2 is 
  2.2   required. 
  2.3      (b) Sections 1 and 2 are effective the day following final 
  2.4   enactment.
