  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to education; setting the length of the 
  1.3             school year; amending Minnesota Statutes 1997 
  1.4             Supplement, section 120.1015. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1997 Supplement, section 
  1.7   120.1015, is amended to read: 
  1.8      120.1015 [LENGTH OF SCHOOL YEAR; DAYS OF INSTRUCTION.] 
  1.9      A school board's annual school calendar shall include at 
  1.10  least three additional 175 days of student instruction beyond 
  1.11  the number of days of student instruction the board formally 
  1.12  adopted as its school calendar at the beginning of the 1996-1997 
  1.13  school year. 
  1.14     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.15     Section 1 is effective for the 1999-2000 school year.
