  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to employment; prohibiting broadcast 
  1.3             employers from including noncompete provisions in 
  1.4             employment agreements; proposing coding for new law in 
  1.5             Minnesota Statutes, chapter 181. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [181.785] [NONCOMPETE AGREEMENTS; BROADCAST 
  1.8   EMPLOYERS.] 
  1.9      Any provision in an employment agreement between a 
  1.10  broadcast employer and an employee or prospective employee which 
  1.11  prohibits the employee or prospective employee from working in a 
  1.12  specific geographic area for a specific period of time after 
  1.13  terminating employment with the broadcast employer is void and 
  1.14  unenforceable.  For purposes of this section, "broadcast 
  1.15  employer" means a television station, television network, radio 
  1.16  station, or radio network. 
  1.17     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE; APPLICABILITY.] 
  1.18     Section 1 is effective August 1, 2003, and applies to 
  1.19  agreements entered, renewed, or extended on or after that date.
