A bill for an act
relating to child welfare; requiring prenatal alcohol exposure screenings for children
in out-of-home placement; amending Minnesota Statutes 2018, section 260C.157,
by adding a subdivision.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2018, section 260C.157, is amended by adding a subdivision
to read:

new text begin Prenatal alcohol exposure screening. new text end

new text begin The responsible social services agency
shall conduct a prenatal alcohol exposure screening for any child placed within the
jurisdiction of the court under section 260B.101 or 260C.101, as soon as practicable, or
within 15 days of the removal of the child from the child's home. The screening must comply
with accepted prenatal alcohol exposure screening best practice guidelines and criteria.
