  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to agriculture; establishing a grant program 
  1.3             for information and technology services to dairy 
  1.4             farmers; providing for monitoring case frequency of 
  1.5             Johne's disease; appropriating money. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [APPROPRIATION.] 
  1.8      $210,000 is appropriated from the general fund to the 
  1.9   commissioner of agriculture for grants to county extension 
  1.10  offices to establish a one-on-one delivery system to provide new 
  1.11  technologies to practicing farmers in order to enhance the 
  1.12  productive potential and financial management of dairy farms in 
  1.13  this state.  The county extension office shall cooperate with 
  1.14  farm business management instructors, dairy specialists, and 
  1.15  dairy industry partners to deliver the informational and 
  1.16  technological services.  This appropriation is available until 
  1.17  June 30, 1997. 
  1.18     Sec. 2.  [APPROPRIATION; JOHNE'S DISEASE.] 
  1.19     $20,000 is appropriated from the general fund to the 
  1.20  commissioner of agriculture to establish a program for 
  1.21  monitoring case frequency of Johne's disease.  The commissioner 
  1.22  shall report to the chairs of the house and senate committees 
  1.23  responsible for agriculture policy on March 1 and September 1 of 
  1.24  each year.  The report may include recommendations for 
  1.25  additional research or monitoring. 
  2.1      This appropriation remains available until June 30, 1997.
