  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to crime prevention; requiring the creation 
  1.3             and dissemination to the public of a brochure relating 
  1.4             to harassment and stalking crimes; appropriating 
  1.5             money; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota 
  1.6             Statutes, chapter 609.  
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  [609.7491] [HARASSMENT; STALKING; PUBLIC 
  1.9   INFORMATION.] 
  1.10     The commissioner of corrections, in cooperation with the 
  1.11  attorney general, shall create a brochure for dissemination to 
  1.12  the public relating to harassment and stalking crimes.  The 
  1.13  brochure shall include a plain language version of sections 
  1.14  609.748 and 609.749 that describes in a clear and coherent 
  1.15  manner using words with common and every day meanings the 
  1.16  contents of those sections.  The brochure shall also instruct 
  1.17  victims of harassment and stalking crimes on how to access 
  1.18  judicial assistance and social services which may be available 
  1.19  to them.  The department of corrections shall publicize and 
  1.20  disseminate the brochure as widely as practicable, including 
  1.21  distributing the brochure to school boards, local governments, 
  1.22  law enforcement agencies, social service agencies, and any 
  1.23  groups engaged in training about harassment and stalking crimes. 
  1.24     Sec. 2.  [APPROPRIATION.] 
  1.25     $....... is appropriated from the general fund to the 
  1.26  commissioner of corrections for the fiscal year ending June 30, 
  2.1   1997, for the purposes of section 1.
