1.1A resolution
1.2memorializing Congress and the Secretary of Agriculture to appropriate money and
1.3negotiate with the State of Minnesota on the sale and exchange of school trust lands.
1.4WHEREAS, the Federal Government granted the state school trust lands for a source of
1.5continued revenue for the betterment of public schools throughout the state; and
1.6WHEREAS, the legislature established the Permanent School Fund Advisory Committee to
1.7advise the Department of Natural Resources on the management of school trust land; and
1.8WHEREAS, the school trust lands in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness do not
1.9generate any revenue to the permanent school fund; NOW, THEREFORE,
1.10BE IT RESOLVED by the Legislature of the State of Minnesota that it affirms the
1.11recommendation of the subcommittee to the Permanent School Fund Advisory Committee to
1.12support negotiations with the United States Forest Service on the sale and exchange of school
1.13trust lands in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
1.14BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Legislature of the State of Minnesota that it affirms
1.15the recommendation of the Permanent School Fund Advisory Committee to include in those
1.16negotiations a hybrid model that would provide for both the sale and exchange of school trust
1.17lands in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness for Federal lands outside the Boundary
1.18Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
1.19BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of State of the State of Minnesota is
1.20directed to transmit copies of this memorial to Minnesota's Senators and Representatives in
1.21Congress, the Secretary of Agriculture, and the Director of the United States Forest Service.
