  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to crime prevention and public safety; 
  1.3             repealing certain restrictions relating to part-time 
  1.4             peace officers; amending Minnesota Statutes 2002, 
  1.5             section 626.8465, subdivision 2; repealing Minnesota 
  1.6             Statutes 2002, section 626.8465, subdivision 3; 
  1.7             Minnesota Statutes 2003 Supplement, section 626.8468, 
  1.8             subdivision 1.  
  1.9   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.10     Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 2002, section 626.8465, 
  1.11  subdivision 2, is amended to read: 
  1.12     Subd. 2.  [PART-TIME PEACE OFFICER LICENSE, RESTRICTION.] 
  1.13  Subject to section 626.8468, subdivision 1, Any individual 
  1.14  licensed by the board as a part-time peace officer shall be 
  1.15  eligible for appointment or employment anywhere in the state as 
  1.16  a part-time peace officer but not as a peace officer unless the 
  1.17  individual meets board training and licensing requirements then 
  1.18  in effect for peace officers. 
  1.19     Sec. 2.  [REPEALER.] 
  1.20     (a) Minnesota Statutes 2002, section 626.8465, subdivision 
  1.21  3, is repealed. 
  1.22     (b) Minnesota Statutes 2003 Supplement, section 626.8468, 
  1.23  subdivision 1, is repealed.  
  1.24     Sec. 3.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.25     Sections 1 and 2 are effective July 1, 2004.
