  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to crime; changing the definition of great 
  1.3             bodily harm; amending Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 
  1.4             609.02, subdivision 8. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 609.02, 
  1.7   subdivision 8, is amended to read: 
  1.8      Subd. 8.  [GREAT BODILY HARM.] "Great bodily harm" means 
  1.9   bodily injury which creates a high probability of death, or 
  1.10  death, or which causes serious permanent disfigurement, or which 
  1.11  causes a permanent or protracted loss or impairment of the 
  1.12  function of any bodily member or organ or other serious bodily 
  1.13  harm. 
  1.14     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.15     Section 1 is effective August 1, 1996, and applies to 
  1.16  crimes committed on or after that date.
