A bill for an act
relating to public safety; prohibiting state and local units of government and law
enforcement agencies from acquiring military-grade weapons from the federal
government's military surplus program; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota
Statutes, chapter 626.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

GOVERNMENT'S MILITARY SURPLUS PROGRAM.

new text begin (a) As used in this section, "military-grade weapons" means militarily equipped vehicles
and aircraft, weapons, and other objects designed to primarily have a military purpose or
offensive capability, and ammunition.

new text begin (b) No state or local unit of government or law enforcement agency may acquire
military-grade weapons pursuant to a military equipment surplus program operated by the
federal government.
