  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to reemployment insurance; providing 
  1.3             additional benefits for certain individuals on layoff 
  1.4             from a certain employer; providing an exemption from 
  1.5             certain requirements. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [EXEMPTION FROM ADDITIONAL BENEFITS 
  1.8   REQUIREMENTS.] 
  1.9      Notwithstanding Minnesota Statutes, section 268.125, 
  1.10  subdivisions 1, and 3, clauses (1) and (5), a claimant is 
  1.11  eligible to receive additional benefits under Minnesota 
  1.12  Statutes, section 268.125, if: 
  1.13     (1) the claimant was laid off due to lack of work from the 
  1.14  Evtac Mining Company in St. Louis county between the months of 
  1.15  June and August of 1999; and 
  1.16     (2) the commissioner of economic security finds that the 
  1.17  claimant satisfies the conditions of Minnesota Statutes, section 
  1.18  268.125, subdivision 3, clauses (2) to (4).  
  1.19     Sec. 2.  [RETIREMENT EXCEPTION.] 
  1.20     Section 1 does not apply to any claimant who, with respect 
  1.21  to any period prior to September 1, 2000, receives, or has an 
  1.22  agreement to receive, a retirement pension financed in whole or 
  1.23  in part by the Evtac Mining Company. 
  1.24     Sec. 3.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.25     Sections 1 and 2 are effective the day following final 
  2.1   enactment.
