A bill for an act
relating to higher education; clarifying MnSCU board policy on credit
requirements; amending Laws 2007, chapter 144, article 1, section 4, subdivision
3.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Laws 2007, chapter 144, article 1, section 4, subdivision 3, is amended to
read:


Subd. 3.

Board Policies

(a) The board must adopt a policy that allows
students to add the cost of textbooks and
required course materials purchased at a
campus bookstore, owned by or operated
under a contract with the campus, to the
existing waivers or payment plans for tuition
and fees.

(b) By January 1, 2009, the board must
adopt a policy setting the maximum
number of semester credits required for
a baccalaureate degree at 120 semester
credits or the equivalent and the number of
semester credits required for an associate
degreenew text begin , except for an associate of applied
science degree,
new text end at 60 semester credits or the
equivalent. The board policy may provide
for a process for granting waivers for specific
degree programs in which industry or
professional accreditation standards require a
greater number of semester credits.
