  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to education; providing for an alternative to 
  1.3             the profile of learning for charter schools; amending 
  1.4             Minnesota Statutes 1999 Supplement, section 124D.10, 
  1.5             subdivision 10. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1999 Supplement, section 
  1.8   124D.10, subdivision 10, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 10.  [PUPIL PERFORMANCE.] A charter school must 
  1.10  design its programs to at least meet the outcomes adopted by the 
  1.11  commissioner for public school students.  In the absence of the 
  1.12  commissioner's requirements, the school must meet the outcomes 
  1.13  contained in the contract with the sponsor.  The achievement 
  1.14  levels of the outcomes contained in the contract may exceed the 
  1.15  achievement levels of any outcomes adopted by the commissioner 
  1.16  for public school students.  The profile of learning high school 
  1.17  graduation requirement under section 120B.02 does not apply to 
  1.18  students enrolled in a charter school if the board has: 
  1.19     (1) adopted a resolution to use alternative graduation 
  1.20  requirements that are specified and detailed; and 
  1.21     (2) informed the parent or guardian of students who are 
  1.22  enrolled or applying to enroll of this resolution.
