  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to the environment; providing that a vehicle 
  1.3             need not be inspected until the year of its 
  1.4             registration is seven years more than its model year; 
  1.5             amending Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 116.61, 
  1.6             subdivision 1a. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 116.61, 
  1.9   subdivision 1a, is amended to read: 
  1.10     Subd. 1a.  [EXCEPTION FOR NEW VEHICLES.] A vehicle need not 
  1.11  be inspected until the year in which it is being registered 
  1.12  is five seven years more than its model year. 
  1.13     Sec. 2.  [APPLICATION.] 
  1.14     Section 1 is effective August 1, 1998, and applies to 
  1.15  vehicles whose registrations expire on or after that date.
