  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to education; providing for the return of 
  1.3             student written responses to the state's basic skills 
  1.4             test for written composition; prohibiting future use 
  1.5             of the January 26, 2000, written test prompt. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [TEST RESULTS RETURNED; PROMPT ELIMINATED.] 
  1.8      (a) A school district must return to students their written 
  1.9   response to the January 26, 2000, test prompt from the state's 
  1.10  basic skills test for written composition under Minnesota 
  1.11  Statutes, section 120B.02, within 15 calendar days of receiving 
  1.12  the students' scored responses.  District personnel shall not 
  1.13  have access to the students' responses for any purpose except to 
  1.14  return the responses to the students. 
  1.15     (b) The test prompt for the state's basic skills test for 
  1.16  written composition administered on January 26, 2000, shall no 
  1.17  longer be administered to students. 
  1.18     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.19     Section 1 is effective the day following final enactment.
