A bill for an act
relating to agriculture; appropriating money for Agricultural Centers of Excellence.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin APPROPRIATIONS; AGRICULTURAL CENTERS OF EXCELLENCE
GRANTS.

new text begin $500,000 in fiscal year 2020 and $500,000 in fiscal year 2021 are appropriated from the
general fund to the commissioner of agriculture for grants to the Agricultural Centers of
Excellence at Central Lakes College and South Central College. The grant money shall be
evenly divided each fiscal year between both Agricultural Centers of Excellence. The
Agricultural Centers of Excellence must use the grant money to:

new text begin (1) develop and support excellence in agricultural, natural resources, and horticultural
programs;

new text begin (2) develop and support students in creating pathways to successful careers in food,
agriculture, and natural resources;
new text end

new text begin (3) make available rural mental health services; and
new text end

new text begin (4) provide farm business management programs for farm owners and operators or to
persons interested in farming.
