  1.2             relating to health plans; requiring coverage for the 
  1.3             routine costs of clinical trials; proposing coding for 
  1.4             new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 62Q. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [62Q.585] [COVERAGE FOR ROUTINE COSTS OF 
  1.7   CLINICAL TRIALS.] 
  1.8      A health plan must provide at a minimum the coverage 
  1.9   required by the federal Medicare program for routine patient 
  1.10  care costs associated with qualifying clinical trials, as well 
  1.11  as all reasonable and necessary items and services used to 
  1.12  diagnose and treat complications arising from participation in 
  1.13  all clinical trials. 
  1.14     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE; APPLICATION.] 
  1.15     Section 1 is effective August 1, 2004, and applies to 
  1.16  contracts issued or renewed on or after that date.
