A bill for an act
relating to public beaches; requiring lifeguards at public beaches to have certain
minimum training; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapters
86B; 471.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

new text begin For the purposes of this section, "public swimming beach"
means an area abutting a body of water, other than a swimming pool governed by section
144.1222, owned or operated by a state agency, whether directly or under agreement with
another public or private entity, intended to be open to the public for swimming.

new text begin If a state agency provides for lifeguards to be present at a
public swimming beach, each lifeguard must be certified in first aid and adult, child,
and infant cardiopulmonary resuscitation, have Red Cross lifeguard certification or the
equivalent, and be responsible for the supervision and safety of persons at the public
swimming beach while on duty.

or other political subdivision; and

a swimming pool governed by section 144.1222, owned or operated by the political
subdivision, whether directly or under agreement with another public or private entity,
intended to be open to the public for swimming.
