A bill for an act
relating to health; changing requirements for interfacility transports; amending
Minnesota Statutes 2006, section 144E.101, subdivision 4.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2006, section 144E.101, subdivision 4, is amended to
read:


Subd. 4.

Denial of service prohibited.

An ambulance service shall not deny
prehospital care to a person needing emergency ambulance service because of inability
to pay or because of the source of payment for services if the need develops within the
licensee's primary service area or when responding to a mutual aid call. Transport for the
patient may be limited to the closest appropriate emergency medical facility.new text begin Ambulance
services are not required to respond to requests for interfacility transports. Decisions
regarding policies on interfacility transports shall be made by the ambulance service's
medical director.
