  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to retirement; teacher retirement plans; 
  1.3             sunsetting the extended leave of absence programs; 
  1.4             amending Minnesota Statutes 2002, sections 122A.46, by 
  1.5             adding a subdivision; 136F.43, by adding a 
  1.6             subdivision; 354.094, by adding a subdivision; 
  1.7             354A.091, by adding a subdivision. 
  1.8   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.9      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 2002, section 122A.46, is 
  1.10  amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.11     Subd. 10.  [SUNSET.] No new extended leaves of absence 
  1.12  under this section may be granted by a school district or 
  1.13  processed by a teachers retirement plan after July 1, 2005.  
  1.14     Sec. 2.  Minnesota Statutes 2002, section 136F.43, is 
  1.15  amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.16     Subd. 7.  [SUNSET.] No new extended leaves of absence under 
  1.17  this section may be granted by the board or processed by a 
  1.18  teachers retirement plan after July 1, 2005.  
  1.19     Sec. 3.  Minnesota Statutes 2002, section 354.094, is 
  1.20  amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.21     Subd. 7.  [SUNSET.] No new extended leaves of absence under 
  1.22  section 122A.46 or 136F.43 may be granted by a school district 
  1.23  or processed by the Teachers Retirement Association after July 
  1.24  1, 2005.  
  1.25     Sec. 4.  Minnesota Statutes 2002, section 354A.091, is 
  1.26  amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  2.1      Subd. 7.  [SUNSET.] No new extended leaves of absence under 
  2.2   section 122A.46 or 136F.43 may be granted by a school district 
  2.3   or processed by the Teachers Retirement Fund Association after 
  2.4   July 1, 2005.  
  2.5      Sec. 5.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  2.6      Sections 1 to 4 are effective on July 1, 2004.
