  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to crime prevention; requiring offenders with 
  1.3             prior predatory offenses who commit designated 
  1.4             offenses to register under the predatory offender 
  1.5             registration law; proposing coding for new law in 
  1.6             Minnesota Statutes, chapter 243. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  [243.167] [REGISTRATION UNDER THE PREDATORY 
  1.9   OFFENDER REGISTRATION LAW FOR OTHER OFFENSES.] 
  1.10     (a) A person shall register under section 243.166 if: 
  1.11     (1) the person was convicted of or adjudicated delinquent 
  1.12  for an offense described in section 243.166, subdivision 1, 
  1.13  paragraph (a); 
  1.14     (2) the person was not required to register for the offense 
  1.15  because the registration requirements of this section did not 
  1.16  apply to the person at the time the offense was committed or at 
  1.17  the time the person was released from imprisonment; and 
  1.18     (3) the person is convicted of any felony-level offense, 
  1.19  any violation of chapter 152 or 518B, or a violation of section 
  1.20  169.121; 169.129; 340A.503; 609.3451, subdivision 2; 617.23, 
  1.21  subdivision 1 or 2; 617.241; 617.243; 617.26; 617.293; or 
  1.22  617.294. 
  1.23     (b) A person who was previously required to register under 
  1.24  section 243.166 and who has completed the registration 
  1.25  requirements of that section shall again register under section 
  1.26  243.166 if the person commits an offense listed in paragraph 
  2.1   (a), clause (3). 
  2.2      Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  2.3      Section 1 is effective August 1, 2000, and applies to 
  2.4   crimes committed on or after that date and to crimes committed 
  2.5   before that date if the person has not been released or 
  2.6   discharged from sentence before August 1, 2000.
