  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to retirement; independent school district 
  1.3             No. 553, New York Mills; extending a deadline for the 
  1.4             school district to file the approval of full-time 
  1.5             teacher retirement association coverage for certain 
  1.6             part-time teachers. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  [INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 553, NEW YORK 
  1.9   MILLS; PART-TIME TEACHER RETIREMENT COVERAGE PROGRAM DEADLINE 
  1.10  EXTENSION.] 
  1.11     (a) Notwithstanding any provision of Minnesota Statutes, 
  1.12  section 354.66, to the contrary, the teachers retirement 
  1.13  association must accept the application for full-time retirement 
  1.14  coverage filed by independent school district No. 553, New York 
  1.15  Mills, on or about October 13, 1995, for a person who: 
  1.16     (1) was born on May 16, 1945; 
  1.17     (2) was initially hired by the school district in 1968; 
  1.18     (3) served in the military from school years 1969-1970 to 
  1.19  1972-1973; and 
  1.20     (4) worked as a part-time computer technology teacher on 
  1.21  January 1, 1996.  
  1.22     A person who meets the requirements of clauses (1) to (4) 
  1.23  is entitled to full-time teacher retirement association coverage 
  1.24  under Minnesota Statutes, section 354.66, for the 1995-1996 
  1.25  school year if all other conditions of that section are met 
  1.26  beyond the failure of the school district to timely file the 
  2.1   application. 
  2.2      (b) If there is any difference between the amount of member 
  2.3   contributions actually deducted from the compensation of a 
  2.4   person who meets the requirements of paragraph (a), clauses (1) 
  2.5   to (4), for teaching services and the amount of the full-time 
  2.6   member contribution under Minnesota Statutes, section 354.66, 
  2.7   subdivision 4, as of December 15, 1995, independent school 
  2.8   district No. 553, New York Mills, shall pay the amount of the 
  2.9   difference, plus an amount equal to 4.25 percent of the amount 
  2.10  of the difference representing one-half year of interest. 
  2.11     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  2.12     Section 1 is effective the day following final enactment.
