  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to crime; making it a gross misdemeanor to 
  1.3             commit domestic assault in the presence of a child; 
  1.4             amending Minnesota Statutes 1995 Supplement, section 
  1.5             609.2242, by adding a subdivision. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1995 Supplement, section 
  1.8   609.2242, is amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 1a.  [ASSAULT IN PRESENCE OF CHILD.] (a) Whoever 
  1.10  violates subdivision 1 in the presence of a child is guilty of a 
  1.11  gross misdemeanor. 
  1.12     (b) For purposes of this subdivision, "child" means an 
  1.13  individual under 18 years of age. 
  1.14     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.15     Section 1 is effective August 1, 1996, and applies to 
  1.16  crimes committed on or after that date.
