  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to government data; modifying provisions 
  1.3             dealing with law enforcement data on pawn shops; 
  1.4             amending Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 13.82, 
  1.5             subdivision 13, and by adding a subdivision. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 13.82, 
  1.8   subdivision 13, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 13.  [PROPERTY DATA.] Data that uniquely describe 
  1.10  stolen, lost, confiscated, or recovered property or property 
  1.11  described in pawn shop transaction records are classified as 
  1.12  either private data on individuals or nonpublic data depending 
  1.13  on the content of the not public data.  
  1.14     Sec. 2.  Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 13.82, is amended 
  1.15  by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.16     Subd. 18.  [PAWN SHOP DATA.] Data that would reveal the 
  1.17  identity of persons who are customers of a licensed pawnbroker 
  1.18  or secondhand goods dealer are private data on individuals.  
  1.19  Data describing the property in a regulated transaction with a 
  1.20  licensed pawnbroker or secondhand goods dealer are public.
