  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to human services; modifying treatment of 
  1.3             supplemental security income for the purposes of MFIP 
  1.4             grants; amending Minnesota Statutes 2003 Supplement, 
  1.5             section 256J.37, subdivision 3b. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 2003 Supplement, section 
  1.8   256J.37, subdivision 3b, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 3b.  [TREATMENT OF SUPPLEMENTAL SECURITY INCOME.] 
  1.10  Effective July 1, 2003 2005, the county shall reduce the cash 
  1.11  portion of the MFIP grant by $125 per SSI recipient who resides 
  1.12  in the household, and who would otherwise be included in the 
  1.13  MFIP assistance unit under section 256J.24, subdivision 2, but 
  1.14  is excluded solely due to the SSI recipient status under section 
  1.15  256J.24, subdivision 3, paragraph (a), clause (1).  If the SSI 
  1.16  recipient receives less than $125 of SSI, only the amount 
  1.17  received shall be used in calculating the MFIP cash assistance 
  1.18  payment.  This provision does not apply to relative caregivers 
  1.19  who could elect to be included in the MFIP assistance unit under 
  1.20  section 256J.24, subdivision 4, unless the caregiver's children 
  1.21  or stepchildren are included in the MFIP assistance unit. 
  1.22     [EFFECTIVE DATE.] This section is effective July 1, 2004.
