1.1 A bill for an act 1.2 relating to elections; allowing all towns to adopt 1.3 November elections; amending Minnesota Statutes 1998, 1.4 sections 205.075, subdivision 2; and 367.03, 1.5 subdivision 4. 1.6 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 1.7 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 205.075, 1.8 subdivision 2, is amended to read: 1.9 Subd. 2. [ALTERNATEOPTIONAL DATE; METROPOLITAN TOWNS.] A 1.10 townlocated in the metropolitan area as defined by section1.11473.121may, by resolution or ordinance, designate the first 1.12 Tuesday after the first Monday in November of either the 1.13 even-numbered or the odd-numbered year as the date of the town 1.14 general election. Town supervisors elected at a November town 1.15 general election shall serve four-year terms. 1.16 The ordinance or resolution changing the date of the town 1.17 general election must include a plan to shorten or lengthen the 1.18 terms of office to provide an orderly transition to the November 1.19 election schedule. 1.20 The ordinance or resolution changing the date of the town 1.21 general election may be proposed by the town board or by a 1.22 resolution of the electors adopted at the annual town meeting 1.23 and is effective upon an affirmative vote of the electors at the 1.24 next town general election. 1.25 Sec. 2. Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 367.03, 2.1 subdivision 4, is amended to read: 2.2 Subd. 4. [OFFICERS;METROPOLITAN TOWNSNOVEMBER 2.3 ELECTIONS.] Supervisors and other town officers in townslocated2.4in the metropolitan area as defined in section 473.121that hold 2.5 the town general election in November shall be elected for terms 2.6 of four years and until their successors are elected and 2.7 qualified. The clerk and treasurer shall be elected in 2.8 alternate years.
