1.1 A bill for an act 1.2 relating to health; amending the scope of practice for 1.3 licensed acupuncturists; amending Minnesota Statutes 1.4 2002, section 147B.06, subdivision 4. 1.5 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 1.6 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2002, section 147B.06, 1.7 subdivision 4, is amended to read: 1.8 Subd. 4. [SCOPE OF PRACTICE.] The scope of practice of 1.9 acupuncture includes, but is not limited to, the following: 1.10 (1) using Oriental medical theory to assess and diagnose a 1.11 patient; 1.12 (2) using Oriental medical theory to develop a plan to 1.13 treat a patient. The treatment techniques that may be chosen 1.14 include: 1.15 (i) insertion of sterile acupuncture needles through the 1.16 skin; 1.17 (ii) acupuncture stimulation including, but not limited to, 1.18 electrical stimulation or the application of heat; 1.19 (iii) cupping; 1.20 (iv) dermal friction; 1.21 (v) acupressure; 1.22 (vi) herbal therapies; 1.23 (vii) dietary counseling based on traditional Chinese 1.24 medical principles; 1.25 (viii) breathing techniques;or2.1 (ix) exercise according to Oriental medical principles; or 2.2 (x) Oriental massage.
