  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to transportation; requiring commissioner of 
  1.3             transportation to take steps to secure federal 
  1.4             authorization to use federal funds allocated for 
  1.5             Northstar commuter rail line to be used for bus rapid 
  1.6             transit in the corridor. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  [NORTHSTAR COMMUTER RAIL LINE; REQUEST FOR 
  1.9   WAIVER.] 
  1.10     The commissioner of transportation shall take all necessary 
  1.11  steps to seek a waiver, exemption, or other agreement from the 
  1.12  Federal Transit Administration that would allow federal section 
  1.13  5309 funds otherwise allocated by that agency for the Northstar 
  1.14  commuter rail line to instead be used for development and 
  1.15  construction of bus rapid transit in the marked Trunk Highway 10 
  1.16  corridor without requirement for a new environmental impact 
  1.17  statement or alternatives analysis. 
  1.18     [EFFECTIVE DATE.] This section is effective the day 
  1.19  following final enactment.
