A bill for an act
relating to public safety; creating state natural disaster assistance grant program;
appropriating money; amending Minnesota Statutes 2006, section 12.221, by
adding a subdivision.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2006, section 12.221, is amended by adding a
subdivision to read:

new text begin The state director may award
state natural disaster assistance grants to eligible local units of government that do not
qualify for federal disaster funds. A local unit of government must provide matching
funds to receive a grant under this subdivision. The commissioner shall develop standards,
procedures, and forms necessary to administer the grant program.

new text begin $5,000,000 is appropriated from the general fund in fiscal year 2008 to the
commissioner of public safety to fund disaster assistance grants authorized in Minnesota
Statutes, section 12.221, subdivision 6.
