  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to crime prevention; authorizing a grant; 
  1.3             appropriating money. 
  1.4   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.5      Section 1.  [GRANT AUTHORIZATION.] 
  1.6      The commissioner of public safety shall administer a pilot 
  1.7   project grant program and make a grant to a nonprofit 
  1.8   organization that provides gang prevention and intervention 
  1.9   services.  The services provided to at-risk youth shall include, 
  1.10  but are not limited to, education, job skills, life skills, 
  1.11  social recreation, and volunteer community service opportunities.
  1.12     Sec. 2.  [APPROPRIATION.] 
  1.13     $375,000 is appropriated for the fiscal year ending June 
  1.14  30, 2002, and $375,000 is appropriated for the fiscal year 
  1.15  ending June 30, 2003, from the general fund to the commissioner 
  1.16  of public safety for a grant to a nonprofit organization that 
  1.17  provides gang prevention and intervention services.
