  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to education; appropriating money for a grant 
  1.3             program for violence prevention through the 
  1.4             development of plays, workshops, and educational 
  1.5             resources. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [GRANT PROGRAM FOR VIOLENCE PREVENTION THROUGH 
  1.8   DEVELOPMENT OF PLAYS, WORKSHOPS, AND EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES.] 
  1.9      Subdivision 1.  [GRANT PROGRAM.] The commissioner of 
  1.10  children, families, and learning shall administer a grant 
  1.11  program to fund statewide programs to create and develop 
  1.12  theatrical plays, workshops, and educational resources based on 
  1.13  peer education models that promote increased awareness and 
  1.14  prevention of sexual abuse, interpersonal violence, emotional 
  1.15  violence, and sexual harassment.  Programs eligible for grants 
  1.16  must use a combination of theater professionals and prevention 
  1.17  specialists in the delivery of the service and use a peer 
  1.18  education model that uses researched and proven content in 
  1.19  training youth to perform in the plays and workshops.  Programs 
  1.20  must provide the source material and training program, develop 
  1.21  the educational materials, and provide technical assistance. 
  1.22     Subd. 2.  [GRANT PROCEDURE.] Programs may apply for a grant 
  1.23  by submitting an application to the commissioner.  The 
  1.24  commissioner may distribute grants to one or more programs 
  1.25  meeting the criteria described in subdivision 1. 
  2.1      Sec. 2.  [APPROPRIATION.] 
  2.2      $75,000 in fiscal year 2000 and $75,000 in fiscal year 2001 
  2.3   is appropriated from the general fund to the commissioner of 
  2.4   children, families, and learning for grants under section 1.
