  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to the city of Minneapolis; providing a sales 
  1.3             tax exemption for the convention center; amending Laws 
  1.4             1986, chapter 396, section 4, as amended. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  Laws 1986, chapter 396, section 4, as amended 
  1.7   by Laws 1987, chapter 55, sections 5 and 6, is amended by adding 
  1.8   a subdivision to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 4.  [SALES TAX EXEMPTION.] Purchases of materials, 
  1.10  supplies, or equipment used or consumed in the construction, 
  1.11  equipment, improvement, or expansion of the convention center 
  1.12  are exempt from the taxes imposed under Minnesota Statutes, 
  1.13  chapter 297A, and from any sales and use tax imposed by a local 
  1.14  unit of government notwithstanding any ordinance or charter 
  1.15  provision.  This exemption applies regardless of whether the 
  1.16  materials, supplies, or equipment are purchased by the city or 
  1.17  by a construction manager or contractor.
